The Defiant first saw service in the Republic Navy during the Clone Wars, where it was adorned with lateral red markings port and starboard. It assisted Generals Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker during the Battle of Christophsis and the recovery of Jabba the Hutt's son. Thirteen standard hangar bays port and starboard, four extended hangar bays port and starboard, two large assault bays port and starboard, two large assault bays ventral, and an opening ventral bay similar to a Venator with twelve extended assault bays, and six more standard hangar bays above the ventral door and on the inside of the twin necks.
